In his book “Her Life’s Work: The Brotherhood of the 1970’s Pittsburgh Steelers, Then and Now,” author Gary M. Pomerantz noted that Harris’ dedication to friends and devotion to teammates may be his most notable attribute.
Jim Porter, the president of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, said on Wednesday that “the entire crew is tremendously heartbroken tonight.”
“We have lost one of the sweetest people you will ever meet, in addition to losing an outstanding football player and advocate for the Hall. Franco had a profoundly good impact on a great deal of people’s lives in addition to the game of football, continued Porter.

Harris’ relatives informed the station that he had passed away. The reason of death was not disclosed.

After playing for Joe Paterno at Penn State, the four-time Super Bowl victor and nine-time Pro Bowler was selected by the Steelers with the 13th overall choice in 1972.
In the course of his illustrious NFL career, Harris amassed more than 11,000 yards of rushing with the Steelers, making him the franchise’s all-time top rusher. He was also voted the Super Bowl IX MVP.
Only a few days before the 50th anniversary of the “Immaculate Reception,” which many have hailed as one of the best plays in NFL history, Hall of Fame running back Franco Harris of the Pittsburgh Steelers passed away on Wednesday.
The match took place in Harris’ first season, 1972. He won four Super Bowls with the team throughout the course of his career, including Super Bowl IX, the team’s first championship, in which he was named MVP. He was also elected into the Hall of Fame the first year he was eligible.
